My paintings are based on magazine illustrations and comics. Their source material is Fashion magazines of the late fifties and comics of the late seventies, essentially of American and French origin respectively.
The works are constructed firstly as collage, and then transferred to canvas. The enlarged canvases are facsimiles of the torn images thus acquiring artwork status with their spontaneous, yet structured composition and hard, black-edged intense color. They relate principally to surface appearance, but also explore spontaneous narratives brought about through the fragmentation of torn image and text.
