I have been exploring practical craft methods, focusing on the hand’s knowledge of a material, including processes such as knitting, crochet and weaving. I am interested in fabric and its distinct materiality. Recently, I have explored the possibility of preserving these formless, malleable shapes in solid sculptures. I often combine fabrics with materials like plaster to solidify the fabric’s natural shape. I soak plaster into knitted fibres and weaves metal loops into the fabric until it is solid. These abstracted and almost biomorphic artworks transform the viewers expectations of these materials.
