Lauren Allen’s practice abstracts elements from architectural surroundings, primarily residential - domestically obtained buildings. The work ranges from distant or proximate subjects to longingly imagined ideas.
The final outcomes are formal objects left deprived of the original function and belonging, inverting the purpose and function of architecture. Combining industrial and household materials such as glass, MDF, fabric, emulsion paints, cement, and sand, the work uses obtainable materials creating surfaces that resemble and fetishize the quotidian.
